"To All the Boys I´ve Loved Before" (Lara Jean´s Trilogy #1)
SYNOPSIS:
“To All the
Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted
her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it,
and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow
her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her
past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer
camp, even her sister's ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past
loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of
these letters after all”.

REVIEW:
The fact
that writing helps us get some things of our chests is a universal truth. When
things go wrong or we need to vent our problems or sorrows, we normally find it
easy to do it on a paper, releasing all the thoughts that are bottled up in our
heads. It is useful and normally, secret. The main character of this book, Lara
Jean, is a teenager that needs to let her worst thoughts go by writing letters
to people, telling them the things that she has never dared to tell them.
However, Lara Jean, doesn´t write to random people, she writes to the boys she
has loved. Her whole world turns around when
she discovers that the 5 letters she wrote have been sent to their recipients.
One being Peter Kavinsky, the most popular and handsome boy at school and Josh,
her neighbour and her sister´s boyfriend. This last letter and the fear of
Margot, her sister, finding out about the feelings she has for Josh, makes Lara
Jean come up with a plot to make Josh believe she is over him.
I have been
waiting to read Lara Jean´s trilogy for so long… but I never really had a
second to read it, so when I saw that Netflix was going to do the film
adaptation, I didn´t think twice and I thought to myself: I won´t watch the
film until I have read the book!
So, when
everybody was enjoying the film I was gathering my strength and resisting the
urge to watch it. I haven´t watched it yet although it had repercussion and
great reviews. Due to this, I had really high expectations and I thought that
maybe as a result the novel could disappoint me. However, it is not the case.
It is true
that at the beginning of the story, I didn´t like Lara Jean a lot, but as the
plot develops and because of the situations where she puts herself in, Lara
Jean changes and evolves as a character. We could tell that as the story is
narrated by her.
It is a
pity that I didn´t have the chance to read this novel when I was 16 because I´m
sure that I would have probably lived the experience of reading it in a
different way , but I have to say that the novel hooks you up and has unique
and interesting characters and it is perfect when we just want to read a good
young adult novel that is full of teenage drama and… Peter Kavinsky. What else
do we need? ;)
